If you are looking for a superior radar detector, look no further than the Valentine One (V1). The V1 sits at the top of the list for range, invisibility to POP radar guns, and police laser detector quality. The Escort Shifter ZR3 and the BEL Laser Pro 904 are so similar in features and performance that they can be listed together. In 2005 the Escort Shifter and the BEL Laser Pro were tested at the “Guys of Lidar” Laser Jammer Shoot Out. Both performed well against all laser guns, with the exception of the Laser Atlanta Type S (when it was placed into Stealth Mode). And just as the Blinder XTreme, the Escort ZR3 and BEL Laser Pro seem to have difficulties when defending against the Photo Lidar signals.
If you are in the market for any device to alert you of police speed detection signals, or to defend you of them, stick to the brands mentioned in this article. They have been tested time and time again, and fair well in most trials to which they are subjected. The Laser Star Jammer is one I keep reading about. I’m currently considering purchasing one of these for a personal review (which I hardly ever do, the only other one was the Valentine One!). Here’s what I’ve seen so far, and I’ll even post a video (below) that shows it in actual use.
The Laser Star Jammer seems to be one of those “too good for the price” type products. However, it really is - but without the catch. From what I’ve seen a dual-head Laser Star brand new is only $450. Since it is sold as a “parking system” - you know, those “dont hit the car behind you” parking systems - it could even pass as a legality (but dont take our word for it, just thinking!). Cobra has come up with another great radar detector. The XRS 9950 model provides excellent protection against a variety of laser beams and band width. The Cobra comes with a Superheterdyne technology which can rapidly detect all 12 laser beams in a rapid fashion. Even the use of the POP mode radar guns is not effective against this cobra gem.

The Veil is a liquid “stealth coating” that has recently been developed to absorb laser energy from a police laser gun. By absorbing the energy, it reduces the range that the officer can make a correct speed reading.
The Veil has consistently been shown to make it difficult for the policeman to obtain a car’s speed. There is a lot of data that indicates that the Veil when used in combination with a decent radar detector that is mounted appropriately (best on the lower side of the windshield) will allow the rider more time to react and thus slow down. Before the laser gun locks on the speed, the driver can immediately adjust his speed.
The coating works on any make of the car or model including motorbikes. The veil coating can be applied on headlights, fog lights, running lights or reflective markers and even license plates. When the policeman aims his laser gun, these coated areas will appear black and won’t give a reading.

The cobra XRS 9440 radar detector is a fairly decent radar/laser detector. It has been widely used for many years and for the price, it is one of the best. It has a 12 band protection that detects both radar and laser signals including X, K and super wide Ka signals. Whether it is used at night or during the day, the bright LCD screen easily displays the text making it easy to read. Like its predecessors, it also provides 360’ circumferential protection against laser signals.
The device is fairly easy to use and has a number of push buttons. While the range of radar detection capability has been argued over the years, most experts agree that it can easily detect radar signals at about a mile.
With its superheterdyne technology, the Cobra XRS 9440 consistently detects all types of police radar signals both in the city and on the highways. Other traditional features of the cobra model include a voice, land safety and strobe alert. When driving on the highways, the Cobra XRS rapidly detects all type of radar currently used by police. Like other radar detectors, it is completely immune to the VG 2 radar detector and even provides for an alert if there is a VG2 in the vicinity.
